The name "Doodpathri" means Valley of Milk. It is said that the famous saint of Kashmir Sheikh ul Aalam Sheikh Noor din Noorani has prayed here and once when he was in search of water in the meadows, to offer prayers, he pricked the ground with his stick to search for water and milk came out. He asked the milk that you can only be used for drinking and not performing ablution. Hearing this milk at once changed its state to water and the meadow got its name Doodpathri. The water which is at present flowing through the meadows has a milky appearance from the distance and remains very cold throughout the year.

Gulmarg is at a travel distance of 40 Km from the Srinagar city which is to be covered in an hour. We could halt at Tangmarg for a cup of coffee and relax our muscles. The major locations to be covered are Golf Club, Strawberry Valley, Nageen Valley and Maharaja Palace. The Gondola Cable Car (optional) offers rides to the upland meadows of Kongdori and beyond to the top of Affarwat range to a height of 14000 ft for viewing the Himalayan Peaks in summer and for downhill skiing in winter. Aharbal is known for its waterfall, Aharbal Falls, where the Veshu falls noisily 25 metres and 7 metres through a narrow gorge of granite boulders. Aharbal Falls are also referred to as the Niagara Falls of Kashmir, owing to the volume of the water that falls. According to a report, the water volume would be sufficient to generate 100 MW of hydroelectricity. The terraces leading to the falls are fenced, but care must be taken to avoid slipping..
