The Thursday Palki Procession is the most vibrant and historically significant weekly event in Shirdi. It commemorates the tradition that began in 1909 when Sai Baba was physically present. Back then, devotees would escort Baba from the Dwarkamai Masjid to the Chavadi on alternate nights, as he used to sleep there.

Day & Time: Every Thursday at 9:15 PM.
Duration: Approximately 45 to 60 minutes.
Route: Samadhi Mandir ⮕ Dwarkamai ⮕ Chavadi ⮕ Return to Samadhi Mandir.
Participation: Open to all; however, it is a standing/walking event in a high-crowd environment.
? The Step-by-Step Schedule
Time Event Location
8:00 PM Baba’s portrait, Padukas (sandals), and Satka (staff) are kept on a throne for public viewing. Samadhi Mandir
9:00 PM Devotees gather to sing Bhajans and Abhangas in the main hall. Samadhi Mandir
9:15 PM The Procession Begins. The Palki (palanquin) leaves the temple with loud cries of “Sai Nath Maharaj Ki Jai!” Exit Gate
9:20 PM The Palki reaches Dwarkamai. Rituals are performed where Baba used to sit. Dwarkamai
9:35 PM The procession reaches the Chavadi for a short Aarti (Laghu Aarti). Chavadi

The streets between Dwarkamai and Chavadi are narrow. To get a good view:

Arrive Early: Find a spot near the Chavadi or Dwarkamai by 8:30 PM.
Balcony View: If you are staying at a hotel near the temple (like those on Pimplewadi Road), check if they have a balcony overlooking the route.
Traditional Dress: While not mandatory for spectators, wearing Yellow (Baba’s favorite color) or traditional Indian attire is encouraged.
Participation Etiquette
Avoid Photography: Most areas near the temple entrance strictly prohibit mobile phones. Focus on the spiritual experience rather than capturing it.
Chanting: Join the devotees in chanting “Om Sai Ram” or singing the Bhajans as the Palki passes.
Safety: The crowd can be intense. Hold onto your children and avoid carrying heavy bags or valuables.

The procession represents the deep bond between the Guru and his disciples. Historically, the descendants of Tatya Kote Patil hold the honor of carrying Baba’s portrait, while descendants of Bayyaji carry the Padukas. Even today, the Palki is not just a ritual; it is believed that Baba’s spirit travels with his devotees, listening to their prayers during this hour.
