The Himachal Roads Transport Corporation (HRTC) will run electric buses on the Manali-Rohtang-Atal tunnel-Manali route in an effort to encourage sustainable tourism. According to DK Narang, HRTC Regional Manager for Kullu, the electric buses would leave Manali in the morning and transport tourists to Rohtang Pass via Kothi, Gulaba, and Marhi. Tourists will be able to enjoy the snow when the buses stop at Rohtang. It will then travel to Koksar in the Lahaul valley before returning to Manali through the Atal tunnel.
He went on to say that people taking HRTC Volvo buses to Manali are told about the electric bus service by the bus employees. He went on to say that once the buses are charged in Manali, they will be able to return to the depot and be refilled using regenerative braking.
A permit is also necessary for private vehicles to visit Rohtang Pass, which must be requested online and is not readily available during the summer season. Those who choose electric buses, on the other hand, will not need to apply for a permit.
