Starscapes, India's foremost Astro tourism company, is planning a range of astronomy-related activities, including a planetary parade, astrophotography sessions, and the Messier Marathon, as part of the International Dark-Sky Week. This event will take place in Starscapes' observatories in Kausani and Bhimtal, as well as their mobile observatories in Madikeri, Virajpet, Puducherry, Goa, and Munnar, from April 22 to April 30.
Starscapes has been actively striving to promote Dark Sky Locations in India in order to increase interest in Astro tourism. According to reports, Starscapes and the Uttarakhand Tourism Board have collaborated to build Benital as India's first-ever Astro village. Hanle is also the world's tallest astronomical observatory, which the Union Territory administration in Ladakh classified as a Dark Sky Sanctuary a few months ago.
The International Dark Sky Week, according to Starcapes CEO and Co-founder Paul Savio, "celebrates the magic of the nocturnal environment and the significance of maintaining and protecting our night sky from light pollution." He went on to say that Starscapes has put together a series of fascinating events for astronomy fans to learn more about the universe in order to raise awareness for the cause.
Savio went on to say that a number of areas in India have minimal levels of light pollution and offer an unobstructed view of the night sky, making them perfect sites for a Dark Sky Park. He indicated that Starscapes hopes to support in the opening of many additional Dark Sky spots across the country in order to encourage Astro tourism.
