After being halted because of the COVID outbreak in 2020, India's iconic luxury train, Palace On Wheels, is slated to resume service soon.
Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) Chairman Dharmendra Rathore is expected to sign a new pact with Indian Railways soon, according to sources. An official revealed that the company will pay its debts, which total roughly INR 42 crore before the luxury train resumes service.
As per reports, the corporation has already handed over a cheque for INR 5 crore, with another INR 3 crore set to be paid this week.
So according to sources, revenue collected by the abovementioned train was split 56:44 between the railways and the RTDC. The distribution system, however, has changed, and the RTDC will now be required to pay haulage rates in accordance with the Bharat Gaurav train policy.
The Palace on Wheels has been in operation since 1982, thanks to RTDC's collaboration with Indian Railways. This luxury train is said to be inspired by the personal coaches of former emperors, and it includes modern amenities against a historical background.
While each carriage has a number of chambers, each chamber is individually designed with local accents and furniture. Its stops and itinerary are likewise designed to follow popular tourist patterns. As a result, a week-long tour on this train makes both the route and the destination memorable.
According to rumours, the firm is also considering lowering the train tariff in order to increase occupancy, with an average occupancy of 60-70 per cent.
The train tariffs currently range from INR 55000 to INR 1.53 lakh, depending on the category.
