A new ropeway has opened in Uttarakhand, bringing respite to tourists and pilgrims seeking darshan at the iconic Surkanda Devi Temple. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami blessed the Maa Surkanda Devi Temple and opened the Kaddukhal-Siddhpeeth Devi ropeway service.
This ropeway, according to Dhami, will be a boon to devotees and tourists seeking Maa Surkanda Devi's darshan. They had to travel for around 2 hours to get here before, but now they would be able to get there quickly. He further stated that this service will help strengthen local people's livelihoods while also promoting adventure and religious tourism.
Such projects, he explained, serve as a key source of pollution-free transportation for commuters and tourists. As a result, he noted, the state government is working to build several ropeway projects in the districts as part of the Centre's Parvatmala scheme.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that adventure water sports are being held in the large lake in the Tehri region, which spans 42 square kilometres, and that more tourism-related activities are in the works.
According to reports, the Chief Minister has instructed District Magistrate Tehri to locate land in this location for the construction of a permanent helipad.
However, Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj anticipated that once the ropeway service for Maa Surkanda is operational, the number of devotees will skyrocket. In light of the Chardham Yatra, he remarked that every attempt is being made to provide all available amenities to pilgrims.
The ropeway is said to have cost around INR 5 crores to construct and is approximately 502 metres long. It can transport 500 people in an hour.
