Ross Island is one of the Andaman Islands, located in the Bay of Bengal. It is part of the Indian Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Ross Island is the former capital of the British East India Company and later the capital of the British Raj from 1858 to 1942. It was abandoned after an earthquake and tsunami in 1942. The island is now a tourist destination, with the only inhabitants being the Indian military and their families.
