The Numismatic Museum of Athens is a museum in Athens, Greece, that houses a large collection of coins and medals. It is located in the city centre, on Panepistimiou Street, in the building of the Bank of Greece. The museum reopened in November 2010 after a two-year renovation. The museum is home to a large collection of coins and medals, comprising more than 100,000 items. The collection dates from the 6th century BC to the present day, and is one of the most important in the world. The museum also possesses a large collection of ancient Greek and Roman coins, as well as Byzantine and Modern Greek coins. The museum is housed in the building of the Bank of Greece on Panepistimiou Street in the city centre. The building is a neoclassical design by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen, and was completed in 1844. The museum reopened in November 2010 after a two-year renovation. The Numismatic Museum of Athens is open every day from 09:00 to 16:00. Admission is free.
