How To Reach Dharamshala

By Air

There are two airports near Dharamshala. The closest airport is Gaggal Airport, also known as Kangra Airport, which is located about 15 km from Dharamshala. The other airport is Bhuntar Airport, which is located about 50 km from Dharamshala.
Gaggal Airport is the smaller of the two airports and has limited facilities.
It only offers flights to Delhi. Bhuntar Airport is the larger of the two airports and offers flights to a number of destinations, including Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, and Chandigarh.
If you are travelling to Dharamshala from abroad, you will most likely need to fly into Delhi. From Delhi, you can take a flight to either Gaggal Airport or Bhuntar Airport.

By Train

The Delhi-Pathankot Express is a direct train that operates between Delhi and Dharamshala. The train departs from Delhi's Hazrat Nizamuddin station and arrives in Dharamshala's Kangra station. The train journey is about 12 hours long and covers a distance of about 520 kilometers.
Pathakot is also another railway station near Dharamshala. 

By Road

Dharamshala is connected by road to the rest of Himachal Pradesh and to the neighbouring state of Punjab. The Pathankot-Dharamshala National Highway (NH-154) is the main road connecting the city to the rest of the country. Buses and taxis are the modes of transportation in the city.

Local transport

Local transport in Dharamshala is provided by buses, shared jeeps and auto rickshaws. The town is served by a bus station where buses to various destinations in Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring states depart from.
There are also a few shared jeep stands in the town from where jeeps travel to nearby villages. Auto rickshaws are available for hire at various locations in the town.
