Dien Bien Phu is a province in northwestern Vietnam. The capital of Dien Bien Phu is located at the foot of the Dien Bien Phu hills. The province has a total area of 5,725 square kilometers, and a population of 714,700. Dien Bien Phu is divided into 11 district-level sub-divisions: 3 districts, 5 communes, 2 wards, and 1 town. The province is famous for the Battle of Dien Bien Phu, which occurred in 1954 and resulted in a decisive victory for the Viet Minh forces over the French.
