Mangalagiri is a small town located in Guntur district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The town is situated on the banks of the Krishna River and is known for its temple of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha. The town is also known for its production of cotton textiles. The name Mangalagiri is derived from two words, mangalam (auspicious) and giri (hill). The town is considered to be auspicious due to its association with the temple of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha.

The history of Mangalgiri is shrouded in mystery. However, it is believed that the hill was originally known as 'Mangalagiri' and was the abode of Lord Shiva. It is also said that the hill is associated with several mythological stories.
