History of New Tehri
New Tehri is a town and a Nagar panchayat in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, India. It is situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi River. The town is administered by a Nagar panchayat. The town was established in the early 19th century as a cantonment by the British East India Company. It was later developed as a hill station. The town was badly affected by the flash floods in June 2013.
