History of Mattancherry Palace
The Mattancherry Palace was built in 1557 by the Portuguese. It was later renovated by the Dutch in 1663. The palace was used as the official residence of the Dutch Governor. The palace was captured by the British in 1795 and used as the official residence of the British Resident. The palace was later handed over to the Indian government in 1957.
