About Punalur

Punalur is a town and a municipality situated in the Kollam district of the Indian state of Kerala. It is located 33 kilometres north of the city of Kollam, on the way to Theni. It is also the headquarters of the Punalur taluk, the town is situated on the banks of the Ashtamudi Lake. Punalur was a prominent city of the Venad kingdom and it was the capital of the province of Venad. The city is situated in the middle of a fertile valley bounded by the Western Ghats on the north and the Arabian Sea on the south. The Ashtamudi Lake on the west and the Pamba River on the east, the city is known for its production of coir and other hand-woven products.
