Kumta is a town and a taluk in Uttara Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, India. Kumta is situated on the western coast of India, and is the administrative headquarters of Kumta taluk. The town is located about 530 km north-west of the state capital of Bangalore, and about 160 km north-west of the city of Mangalore. Kumta is located at the mouth of the Aghanashini River. The town is surrounded by the Western Ghats on three sides, and the Arabian Sea on the fourth side. Kumta is a major center for the fishing industry in Karnataka. The town is also a major center for the manufacture of cashew nuts. Kumta is also famous for its temples, and is a major pilgrimage center for the Hindus.
