History of Namgyal Monastery
Namgyal Monastery was founded in the late seventeenth century by the Fifth Dalai Lama, Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso. It is the main monastery of the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism in exile and is home to the Dalai Lama's personal monastery.
