Pleiku

Pleiku is a city in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. It is the capital of Gia Lai Province. Pleiku is located in the middle of the Central Highlands of Vietnam, at the junction of National Highways 14 and 19. It is the capital of Gia Lai Province. The city is situated in a valley at an altitude of 1,067 meters (3,501 feet) and is surrounded by mountains. The Dak Bla River flows through the city.

 

The climate is tropical, with a wet season from May to October and a dry season from November to April. The average annual temperature is 23.5 degrees Celsius (74.3 degrees Fahrenheit). The population of Pleiku was estimated to be 263,000 in 2009. The main ethnic groups in Pleiku are the Kinh (Viet), the Bahnar, and the Jarai. The economy of Pleiku is based on agriculture, forestry, and tourism. The main crops are rice, maize, cassava, sweet potato, and coffee. The main industries are agriculture, forestry, and tourism. The main tourist attractions in Pleiku are the Chu Pong Massif, the Dak Bla River, and the Pleiku Airbase.
