History of the Martesana Canal
The Martesana Canal was opened in 1769 and it links the Adda River to the Ticino River. It is about 55 kilometers long and it has a total of 16 locks. The canal was built to provide a route for transportation and commerce between the northern and southern parts of Italy. What to See Along the Canal?
