About French War Memorial
The Pondicherry French War Memorial commemorates the French soldiers who died during World War I. The memorial is located in the center of the Place de la Republique in Pondicherry, India. The memorial was designed by the French architect, Louis-Hippolyte Boileau and was dedicated on November 11, 1924. The memorial features a large, granite sarcophagus with a bronze statue of a French soldier on top. The inscription on the memorial reads, "Aux Morts de la France 1914-1918" which means "To the Dead of France 1914-1918".
