The Thanjavur Brahadeshwara Temple, also known as the Brihadeshwara Temple, is a Tamil Hindu temple dedicated to the god Shiva. It is located in the town of Thanjavur in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple was built by the Chola king Rajaraja I in the year 1003, and is considered one of the most important temples in South India. The temple is a massive structure, and is considered one of the most impressive Hindu temples in India. The temple is decorated with elaborately carved stone sculptures, and is noted for its massive shikhara, or tower. The Thanjavur Brahadeshwara Temple is open from 6:00am to 12:00pm and from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
