Nachiketa Lake is a serene and beautiful high altitude lake located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India. This pristine alpine lake is located at a height of around 4,500 meters above sea level and is considered as one of the most beautiful lakes in the region. The clear blue waters of the lake and its tranquil surroundings are a major tourist attraction and offer some stunning views. The lake is named after Nachiketa, a sage from the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata. The legend associated with the lake is that Nachiketa was granted a wish by Yama, the god of death. Nachiketa wished to see the world beyond death and Yama took him to the underworld where he showed him the beautiful lakes and landscapes. The lake is a major trekking destination and is frequented by hikers and trekkers. The trek to the lake is a challenging one and takes around two days to complete. The route passes through some beautiful alpine landscapes and offers some stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
