About Gaumukh Gaumukh is a small village in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is located in the Chamoli district and is situated at an elevation of 4,350 metres above sea level. The village is situated close to the source of the Ganges River, which is why it is also known as Gaumukh. The village is a popular tourist destination and is visited by tourists who are keen to see the source of the Ganges.
