About Tel aviv Tel Aviv is the second most populous city in Israel, after Jerusalem, with a population of 423,000 residents in 2015. Located on the Mediterranean Sea, it is also Israel's commercial and financial center. Tel Aviv was founded in 1909 by a group of Jewish immigrants who sought to create a new city outside of Jaffa. The city has grown rapidly and is now a leading center for culture and nightlife in the Middle East.
