The district is bounded by Mon district to the south, Kiphire district to the west, and the State of Arunachal Pradesh to the north and east. The district occupies an area of 3,471 km². The district has a population of 157,739, of which 82,739 are male and 75,000 are female. There are 30,739 households in the district. The district has a literacy rate of 82.14%.
