Legend of Tripura Sundari Temple
The legend of Tripura Sundari Temple is associated with the demon king Ravana. It is believed that Ravana once kidnapped Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, and took her to his kingdom of Lanka. Lord Rama eventually tracked down Ravana and killed him, rescuing Sita in the process. As Ravana was a powerful demon, his death caused a lot of chaos in the underworld. In order to prevent Ravana from wreaking havoc in the afterlife, his brother Vibhishana asked Lord Vishnu to intervene. Lord Vishnu agreed to help and took the form of Tripura Sundari, a beautiful goddess. She managed to pacify Ravana's soul and put him in a state of suspended animation. The Tripura Sundari Temple was built to commemorate this event.
