About Bageshwar Vijaypur Bageshwar Vijaypur is a town and a nagar panchayat in Bageshwar district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The town is located at the foot of the Himalayas, and is a popular tourist destination. The Kumaon region was ceded to the British East India Company by the ruler of Nepal in 1816. The town of Bageshwar was established as the capital of the Kumaon region. The region saw considerable turmoil in the early years of British rule, with the 1857 uprising and the subsequent establishment of the United Province of India. The town was the scene of fighting between the British and the Gurkhas in 1814. The town was also the scene of fighting between the British and the Tibetans in 1904.
