Baltal is a small town located in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The town is situated on the banks of the Sind River, which is a tributary of the Jhelum River. Baltal is located about 14 km east of the city of Srinagar and about 116 km from the city of Jammu. Baltal is best known as the base camp for pilgrims travelling to the Amarnath Cave, a Hindu shrine located in the Himalayas. The Amarnath Cave is one of the most sacred sites in Hinduism and is visited by millions of pilgrims each year.
