History of Bhojpur
The first inhabitants of Bhojpur were the Paharias. They were followed by the Gupta dynasty in the 4th century AD. The Tomars, a Rajput clan, captured the region in the 12th century. The Muslim invasions began in the 12th century and continued until the 16th century. The Mughals captured the region in the 16th century. The Marathas captured the region in the 18th century. The British East India Company captured the region in 1803. The region became a part of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh in 1856. The region was divided into two districts in 1891. The region became a part of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh in 1902. The two districts were merged into a single district in 1948. The district was renamed Bhojpur in 1950.
