The Chikhaldara Narnala Fort is a historical fort in the Achalpur district of Maharashtra, India. The fort is located atop a hill and is surrounded by the Satpura Range. The fort was originally built by the Satpura Rajputs in the 10th century, and was later used by the Marathas and the British. The fort is now a popular tourist destination, and is home to a number of temples and other tourist attractions.

History of Narnala Fort

The Narnala Fort was built by Malik Ambar, the Prime Minister of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate. He was of Ethiopian origin, and he served under two of the most powerful rulers of the Ahmadnagar dynasty, Ibrahim Nizam Shah (1558-1599) and his son and successor, Murtaza Nizam Shah (1599-1626). Malik Ambar was a brilliant military strategist and an able administrator. He is credited with strengthening the Ahmadnagar Sultanate and making it a powerful force in the Deccan. The Narnala Fort was one of his most ambitious projects. It is said that he had the fort built in just six months, in 1599. The fort is perched on a hilltop and is surrounded by steep cliffs on all sides. The fort was built as a strategic stronghold and it was also used as a palace by Malik Ambar and his family.
