About Uttarkashi
Gangotri is a small town located in Uttarkashi district in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is located at a distance of about 307 km from the state capital Dehradun. Gangotri is situated at an altitude of 3,048 meters above sea level. The town is located on the banks of the river Bhagirathi. Gangotri is one of the four sites in India where pilgrimages to Hindu temples are made. The other three sites are located in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. The Gangotri temple is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Ganga. The temple was constructed in the early 18th century by the King of the Gorkha dynasty, Prithvi Narayan Shah. The temple is open to the public from April to November every year. The town is also home to a number of other temples and shrines. These include the shrine of Baba Mandir, the shrine of Goddess Chandi, the shrine of Lord Vishnu, and the shrine of Goddess Durga. The town is also a popular tourist destination.
