History of Chowmallah Palace
The Chowmahalla Palace was built by the Asaf Jahi dynasty in the late 18th century. It served as the official residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad. The palace was extensively damaged in a fire in 1869, and was subsequently rebuilt. It was used as the official residence of the Nizams until 1948, when the last Nizam, Osman Ali Khan, was forced to abdicate by the Indian government. The palace was subsequently used as a museum.
