About Jew Town
Kochi Jew Town is a district in the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. It is the historic center of the Jewish community in Kerala. The area is home to the 400-year-old Paradesi Synagogue, the first synagogue in India, and the only one still in use. The district is located in the Fort Kochi neighborhood of Kochi. It is bounded by the Arabian Sea to the west, the Chinese Fishing nets area to the east, the Mattancherry area to the north, and the Bolgatty area to the south. The Paradesi Synagogue is the primary attraction in Kochi Jew Town. The synagogue was built in 1568, making it the oldest synagogue in India. It is also the only synagogue in India that is still in use. Other attractions in Kochi Jew Town include the Dutch Palace, the Jewish Cemetery, the St. Francis Church, and the Chinese Fishing Nets.
