Kullu is a district in Himachal Pradesh, India. The district has an area of 2,248 km² and a population of 551,602 (2001 census). It is bounded by the Beas River on the north, the Mahi River on the east, the district of Chamba on the south, and the district of Mandi on the west. Manikaran is a pilgrimage centre for Hindus and Sikhs. It is located in the Parvati Valley and is about 45 km from Kullu. According to legend, Manikaran is the place where Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati got married. The main attraction in Manikaran is the hot springs. The water of the springs is said to have therapeutic properties.
