About Gotsang Gompa Hemis

Gotsang Gompa Hemis is a Buddhist monastery in Ladakh, located in the Indus Valley. It is one of the most important monasteries in Ladakh, and is home to the Hemis Festival, one of the most important festivals in the region.
The monastery was founded in the late 17th century by the first incarnation of the Gyalwa Karmapa, and is part of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism. The main attraction of the monastery is its library, which is home to a large collection of rare Buddhist texts.
 
The Hemis Festival is held every year in June, and is celebrated with a week-long series of religious ceremonies and dances. The festival is dedicated to Padmasambhava, the 8th-century founder of Tibetan Buddhism, and is considered to be one of the most important festivals in the region.
