Munnar is a hill station and a municipality in the Idukki district of the Indian state of Kerala. Munnar is situated on the banks of the Madhurapuzha River. Munnar is situated at an altitude of 1,600 meters (5,249 ft). It is the highest town in Kerala. Munnar is a picturesque town with rugged mountains, tea plantations, and wildlife. The name Munnar is believed to be derived from the Malayalam words "munnu" (mountain) and "aaru" (river). Munnar is home to the Tata Tea Museum. The museum is housed in the Tata Tea Guest House, which was formerly the residence of the British managers of the Tata Tea plantation. The museum is open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
