The temple is located on the banks of the river Pamba. The temple is one of the most important temples in Kerala and is frequented by devotees from all over the state. The temple is known for its annual festival, the Thiruvithamcode Mahadeva Temple Festival, which is celebrated in the month of Meenam (March–April). The festival is celebrated for ten days and is attended by thousands of devotees.
