About Scavi di Pompeii (Excavations of Pompeii)
The Excavations of Pompeii are a series of archaeological excavations of the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, started in 1748. Today, the excavations are managed by the Soprintendenza Archaeologica di Napoli e Pompei. The excavations have revealed the remains of a large number of buildings, many of them public or municipal buildings, as well as private houses. The most famous of these is the House of the Vetti, a large villa with a garden. The excavations also revealed a large number of wall paintings and other works of art.
