About Raj Bhavan

The Raj Bhavan at Raigad is the official residence of the Governor of Maharashtra. It is located atop a hill in the town of Raigad, about 80 kilometers from Mumbai. The Raj Bhavan was built in 1884 by the British as a summer residence for the Governor of Bombay Presidency. It served as the official residence of the Governor until 1960, when the capital of Maharashtra was moved from Mumbai to Nagpur. The Raj Bhavan was then used as a guest house and a retreat for the Governor. In 1996, the Raj Bhavan was handed over to the Government of Maharashtra and it was restored and refurbished. It is now the official residence of the Governor of Maharashtra.
