Rameswaram Lakshmana Tirtham is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tamil Nadu. This historic temple is dedicated to Lord Rama and is located on the banks of the holy River Rama Sethu. The temple is said to be one of the 108 Divya Desams, the most sacred temples of Lord Vishnu. The temple is visited by millions of pilgrims every year and is considered to be one of the most important pilgrimage centres for Hindus. The temple complex is spread over an area of 9 acres and is home to a number of shrines and temples. The main temple complex is dedicated to Lord Rama and is flanked by the shrines of Lord Lakshmana and Goddess Sita. The temple is famous for its beautiful architecture and the elaborate carvings that adorn the temple walls. The temple is also home to a number of sacred ponds and wells. The most famous of these is the Rama Tirtha, a sacred well said to have been dug by Lord Rama himself. The temple is open from 6am to 10pm and is free to visit. The best time to visit the temple is during the annual Rama Navami festival, which is celebrated in April-May.
