About Longhua Temple

The Longhua Temple is a Buddhist temple located in Shanghai, China. It is one of the largest and most important temples in Shanghai, and is a popular tourist attraction. The temple was first built in 977 AD, during the Tang Dynasty. It was destroyed by fire in 1049 AD, and rebuilt in 1063 AD. The temple was again destroyed by fire in 1764 AD, and rebuilt in 1776 AD. The temple was extensively renovated in 1986. The Longhua Temple is famous for its giant bronze statue of the Maitreya Buddha, which is the largest bronze statue in China. The statue is over 28 meters tall, and weighs over 250 tons.
