History of Srisailam Dam

The Srisailam Dam is an irrigation project on the Krishna River located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The project was initiated in 1951 and the dam was completed in 1964. The dam is 251 metres (822 ft) high and 2,075 metres (6,794 ft) long. The dam creates the Srisailam Reservoir, with a capacity of 9.8 cubic kilometres (2.4 cu mi). The dam is a part of the Srisailam Hydroelectric Project, which includes six power stations with a combined capacity of 1,320 megawatts (1,760,000 hp).
