About Champawat Champawat is a town in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India.It serves as the administrative centre of the Champawat district. The town was the Kumaon Kingdom's former capital. Champawat is thought to be the site of the Kurmavtar (Lord Vishnu's turtle incarnation). Almora district used to include Champawat.
