About Dantewada Dantewada is a district in the state of Chhattisgarh in India. The district is located in the southern part of the state and is bounded by the states of Andhra Pradesh to the south and Maharashtra to the north. The district has an area of 10,844 km² and a population of 1,311,853 (2011 census). The district headquarters is located at Dantewada town. The district is divided into five tehsils: Dantewada, Katekalyan, Sukma, Bijapur, and Konta. Dantewada District was carved out of Bastar District on 1 July 1997. The district is rich in natural resources with a large area covered by forests. The district has a large number of mineral resources including coal, iron ore, and limestone. The major industries in the district are mining and forest based. The district has a large number of tribals who depend on the forests for their livelihood. The tribals have been affected by the Naxal insurgency in the district.
