About Karla caves The Lonavala Karla caves are a group of Buddhist caves located in Lonavala, Maharashtra, India. The caves are numbered 1 to 9, and are located on the right-hand side of the Karla River, about 2 km from the river mouth. They were excavated in the first century BC. The caves are famous for their stone carvings.
