About Marigaon Itanagar is the capital of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is also the headquarters of Papum Pare district. Itanagar is situated on the southern banks of the Kameng River, a major tributary of the Brahmaputra River. The town is surrounded by the Himalayan mountains and is located at an altitude of 2,000 metres (6,562 feet). The temperature varies greatly in the town, with summer temperatures reaching a high of 34 °C (93 °F) and winter temperatures dropping to as low as −15 °C (5 °F). The current Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, is from Itanagar.
