About Tungnath The Tungnath temple is a religious shrine located in the Rudraprayag district of the Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the four important temples located in the Garhwal Himalayas, along with Badrinath, Kedarnath, and Hemkund Sahib. The temple is located at an altitude of 3,680 meters and is considered to be the highest Shiva temple in the world. The temple is open only during the winter months, from November to March. The Tungnath temple is believed to have been built by the Pandavas, the heroes of the Hindu epic, Mahabharata. The temple is said to have been consecrated to Lord Shiva by the sage, Vyasa. The temple has a rich history and is considered to be one of the most important pilgrimage destinations for Hindus. The temple is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year.
