About Bhopal
The Bhimbetka rock shelters are an archaeological site located in Raisen District in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is about 45 km from Bhopal. The Bhimbetka shelters are spread over an area of about 10 km² and contain evidence of human habitation for over 100,000 years. The site consists of a series of rock shelters, caves and overhangs located in the foothills of the Vindhya Range. The paintings are primarily of red and white colours and depict human beings and animals. The Bhimbetka shelters were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.
