Chitrakoot is a sacred place for Hindus located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is believed to be the place where Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman spent eleven years of their exile. The place is also associated with the great Indian epic, Ramayana. The Chitrakoot Dham pilgrimage site is spread across three districts, namely, Chitrakoot, Satna and Rewa. The Chitrakoot Hill is the main pilgrim centre, which is located in the Chitrakoot district. According to legend, Lord Ram, Sita and Lakshman trekked to Chitrakoot Hill to perform a penance. The hill is also associated with the sage, Valmiki, who is believed to have composed the Ramayana here. The other two pilgrimage centres are the Kamadgiri Hill and the Hanuman Dhara Falls. The Kamadgiri Hill is located in the Rewa district and is dedicated to Lord Ram. The Hanuman Dhara Falls is located in the Satna district and is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The Chitrakoot Dham is one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage sites in India and attracts millions of pilgrims every year.
