About Sacred Monastery of Arkadi
The Arkadi Monastery is a Greek Orthodox monastery situated in the Rethymnon regional unit of Crete. The monastery is located 16 km south of Rethymnon, and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was built in the 16th century, and was damaged by an earthquake in 1867. The monastery was rebuilt, and was damaged again by an earthquake in 1956. The monastery was rebuilt again, and was damaged again by an earthquake in 1995.
