Forest Research Institute

The Forest Research Institute in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India, is a premier institution for forestry research in the country. It is an autonomous body under the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE), an apex body for forestry research in India. The institute has its origins in the Imperial Forest School, set up in 1878 at Dehradun by Sir Dietrich Brandis, the first Inspector-General of Forests in British India. The school was renamed the Forest Research Institute in 1906.
